Thin skin, repeated muscle movements, sun damage, stress, lifestyle choices, and gravity contribute to excess skin on the upper eyelid, puffy bags on the lower eyelid, and lines and wrinkles around the eyes.

When non-surgical treatments and laser therapies are not powerful enough to address eyelid aging, Diamond Facial Rejuvenation is appropriate. Diamond Facial Rejuvenation is a comprehensive surgical approach that “turns back time” and restores youthful contours. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is one of the many Diamond Facial Rejuvenation techniques offered at the Diamond Face Institute. This surgery reverses these signs of aging and allows your outer appearance to match your inner vitality.

What Is Achieved With Eyelid Surgery?

Improvement of Upper-Eye Hooding

Drooping eyelids may make a person appear older than they are, impair their range of vision, and prevent them from being able to express a full range of emotions. Diamond Facial Rejuvenation with eyelid surgery removes excess skin and repositions excess fat to open up the eyes. This allows patients to have complete control over their expressions, a wider range of vision, and a more youthful gaze.

Reduction of Under-Eye Bags

Puffiness beneath the eyes is often associated with being tired, angry, or sad. Unfortunately, bags and dark circles are also a result of the natural aging process. Eyelid surgery removes or redistributes excess fat pockets beneath the eyes so that patients can achieve youthful smoothness. Patients will look more awake and aware following eyelid surgery.

Elimination of Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet are the tiny wrinkles that radiate from the corners of the eyes and age your appearance. These lines develop as a response to blinking and squinting, and they are often worsened by sun damage. Diamond Facial Rejuvenation reduces the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes and restores a smoother and more rejuvenated eye appearance.

What Are My Options for Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery is performed using intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. The level of anesthesia will be based on your surgical plan and your overall health. During your consultation, Dr. Diamond will recommend the best anesthetic for you.

Your treatment may include upper blepharoplasty, lower blepharoplasty, or a combination of facial cosmetic procedures.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper blepharoplasty addresses upper eyelid hooding, sagging skin, and excess fat.

  • Uses an incision made in the natural eyelid crease
  • Removes or repositions fat pockets on the upper eyelid
  • Trims excess skin
  • Can be extended to remove crow’s feet

Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty targets puffiness and heavy bags beneath the eyes.

  • Uses an incision made just beneath the lower lash line
  • Removes or repositions fat pockets
  • Trims excess skin

Combination With Brow Lift

While upper eyelid hooding can be the result of loose skin and excess fat on the upper eyelid, it can also be the result of a sagging brow. #Diamond Facial Rejuvenation addresses multiple areas by combining eyelid surgery with brow lift surgery to restore youthfulness to the entire upper portion of the face.

Brow lift surgery targets sagging brows, frown lines, and horizontal forehead creases.

Combination With BOTOX® Cosmetic

Some patients who display frown and forehead lines do not wish to undergo or need brow lift surgery. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical injectable treatment that minimizes the appearance of crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines.

This injectable treatment provides temporary smoothness to the upper third of the face, and injections can be repeated as often as necessary to maintain results. However, it cannot address significant skin sagging and displaced fat.

Combination With Facelift

While eyelid surgery targets the upper face around the eyes, facelift surgery focuses on the lower two-thirds of the face. Diamond Facial Rejuvenation techniques can be performed together in order to maintain aesthetic balance across the face.

Facelift surgery addresses sagging tissues, skin laxity, deep wrinkles around the nose and mouth, and jowls.

What Are Your Concerns About Eyelid Surgery?

How Long Does It Take to Recover From Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure, and you can return home shortly after your anesthesia wears off. Because this procedure is performed with anesthesia, you will need to have a friend or family member present to drive you home and assist you for the first night.

Immediately After

Bruising, swelling, irritation, and dry eyes are all expected side effects following eyelid surgery. Cold compresses and ointments will help to control bruising and swelling, and you should sleep with your head in an upright position to encourage proper blood flow.

One Week

Most of the bruising and swelling will subside after the first week, and many patients feel comfortable going out and returning to work. Patients should still take it easy and not overexert themselves.

Two to Three Weeks

You should not participate in any strenuous exercise or physical activities for at least two to three weeks. Most of the bruising and swelling should have subsided, and you should start to realize your final cosmetic results.

Will There Be Scars After My Eyelid Surgery?

Dr. Diamond places all incisions in easy-to-conceal locations. These incisions are hidden in the natural creases and beside the lash lines so that they are invisible to the naked eye. Any residual scarring can be covered with makeup, and this scarring will fade with time.

How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?

Eyelid surgery is personalized to you depending on your specific needs and level of skin laxity.

The total cost of your Diamond Facial Rejuvenation will factor in the techniques used, the extent of correction, geographical location, anesthesia fees, surgeon’s fees, facility fees, and any procedure or treatment that is being performed in combination with your eyelid surgery.

Dr. Diamond will provide you with an accurate cost estimate once he has had a chance to evaluate your needs. We offer financing options through CareCredit®.

Is There Pain Involved With Eyelid Surgery?

You may experience some physical discomfort, tightness, and irritation around the eyes following your eyelid surgery. This discomfort can be lessened with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication.

Frequently Asked Questions About Eyelid Surgery

Am I a candidate for eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery is performed for men and women who are unhappy with the aged and tired appearance of their eyes. Ideal candidates are men and women who:

  • Are in good overall health
  • Have no previous medical conditions that can affect their ability to heal
  • Do not smoke
  • Are realistic about their expectations

Are there non-surgical alternatives to eyelid surgery?

Injectable treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic or Diamond Facial Contouring are sometimes advertised as non-surgical alternatives to blepharoplasty. While these treatments are beneficial in lessening age- and expression-related lines and wrinkles, neither of them can address skin laxity or excess fat. Only eyelid surgery can address significant aging on the upper and lower eyelids.

Is my eyelid surgery permanent?

Your results will become apparent once the bruising and swelling subside. This usually occurs within a couple of weeks. These results should provide you with a more alert, rejuvenated, and refreshed eye region. The results of your eyelid surgery will last for several years; however, no surgical procedure can stop the natural progression of age, and additional lines and laxity will eventually develop.

How can I extend the longevity of my eyelid surgery results?

Even though you cannot prevent the natural aging process, you can slow the progression of aging with a few simple practices. You should stay out of the sun as much as possible, wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen and sunglasses, apply moisturizers and lotions to your face religiously, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The eyelids and surrounding areas are home to the thinnest skin areas, which is why it is necessary to treat it with a structured and customized daily regimen. The Diamond Face Institute offers a wide range of quality skincare products that will maintain a healthy and youthful glow.
