During My Trip to Dubai
I just returned from Dubai and I was there for 8 days. I had a great trip and took care of many wonderful people. The most common procedures that I do while in Dubai are rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty. As the years have gone by, I have seen more and more Arabic men coming in for rhinoplasty. I have really enjoyed getting to know the Middle Eastern culture, particularly the local people from the Gulf Region. The techniques that I have honed over the course of my career doing facial plastic surgery are perfectly suited for a Middle Eastern rhinoplasty. I have always been very pleased with my rhinoplasty results, as have my patients. What I have found as I gain more experience on these trips to Dubai is being able to understand the culture better and this has helped my patients be even happier. I have many Arabic female rhinoplasty patients who wish to maintain their ethnic appearance and that may mean preserving a bump or somewhat of a downward-turning tip and I have others who wish to have more of a European style nose and others who wish to have more of a “California cute” nose. Furthermore, I have many Arabic men who also wish to maintain their ethnicity as well as others who wish to have a more stylized appearance to their nose. What I have gained a lot of experience with and have really enjoyed, is really being able to communicate and understand the cultural desires of individuals.
This case example is one particular situation where this Arabic man wished to have a more Caucasian look. He wanted to reduce the bump and completely eliminate the droopy appearance to his tip. He was not concerned about maintaining his ethnic appearance. He was hoping that his nose would look more universal such that he could be confused for someone of Mediterranean descent or someone of a European descent. So, I was more aggressive in reducing his bump and lifting his tip. He is very pleased with his results and he still has a very natural-appearing nose, just more stylized. I have many others who wish to maintain the bump and maintain the droopy tip and just create smaller amounts of refinement.
