Vertical Facelift in Beverly Hills, CA
Good plastic surgery results have one thing in common: They look natural. The key is working with the patient’s anatomy, not against it, and “future-proofing” results so that, as you age, your work ages with you. That’s the theory behind the vertical facelift: revitalizing the facial structure by lifting tissues upward—not horizontally—to treat facial aging while avoiding telltale signs of cosmetic work, such as the “windswept” result. Instead, patients look and feel like themselves, just younger, and can enjoy the benefits for years to come.

What Is a Vertical Facelift?
A vertical facelift is an alternative approach to a traditional facelift. By lifting the underlying facial tissues, called the SMAS layer, in a vertical plane rather than horizontally, a vertical facelift provides long-lasting facial rejuvenation without the tight, windswept appearance associated with dated techniques.
What Are My Vertical Facelift Options?
Your custom vertical facelift will be designed by you and Dr. Diamond during your consultation; no two procedures are the same. Dr. Diamond’s signature facial-balancing approach typically combines multiple facial enhancement procedures simultaneously to create a more harmonious surgical and non-surgical result. The following procedures are commonly paired with vertical facelifts for stunning results.
Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)
The eyes often show signs of aging before other facial features, as the skin and tissues are much more delicate and are susceptible to creasing. If upper eyelid crinkling or under-eye puffiness are contributing to an aged or tired appearance, blepharoplasty is a fantastic solution with a high success rate and a quick recovery.
Neck Lift
Select patients can benefit from combining their vertical facelift with a neck lift for a seamless, elegant result. A neck lift is a focused procedure that treats sagging skin, vertical neck bands, and a turkey neck for a slender, smooth outcome that lasts.
Diamond Skin Therapy
An undeniable feature of Dr. Diamond’s patients is their glowing, luminous skin. Dr. Diamond emphasizes the importance of healthy skin in any cosmetic enhancement. Together with Dr. Combs, Dr. Diamond developed a custom, non-surgical skin-care program called Diamond Skin Therapy, in which patients receive laser resurfacing, microneedling, and specialized services to achieve beautiful skin that highlights any surgical results.
Who Is an Ideal Candidate for a Vertical Facelift?
Good candidates for a vertical facelift have moderate to severe signs of facial aging, such as sunken or sagging cheeks and jowls, deep smile lines and nasolabial folds, and fine lines and wrinkles. A vertical facelift is ideal for patients who want a transformational result that ages well and looks as natural as possible. Additionally, ideal vertical facelift candidates:
- Want a lifted, rejuvenated facial appearance
- Want long-lasting results that age well
- Want a natural-looking facelift result
- Are nonsmokers or are willing to quit smoking
- Have reasonable expectations for results
The best way to determine if you are an ideal candidate for a vertical facelift is to request a consultation with Dr. Diamond. Call the Diamond Face Institute today at (310) 859-9816 or complete the contact form to get started.

How a Vertical Facelift Is Performed
Your Vertical Facelift Consultation
Your initial consultation with Dr. Diamond is an essential step in the vertical facelift process. During your meeting, Dr. Diamond will listen to your concerns and goals. He will then evaluate your face to determine the severity of your concerns and choose the right facelift option for you. He may also suggest accompanying procedures, such as blepharoplasty or a brow lift, to complete your facial rejuvenation plan.
The Vertical Facelift Procedure Steps
Each vertical facelift is unique to the needs of the patient, but the general vertical facelift procedure steps are as follows:
- Dr. Diamond will begin by making small incisions in discreet locations, typically around the ear and temples.
- Through these incisions, Dr. Diamond will elevate the underlying facial muscles and tissues vertically, repositioning the cheeks and lifting the jawline and neck.
- Once the tissues and muscles are positioned and sutured in place, Dr. Diamond will redrape the skin to a natural position and remove any excess.
- When Dr. Diamond is pleased with the results, he will carefully close the incisions with neat suturing.
Vertical Facelift Recovery & Aftercare
After your vertical facelift, expect some bruising, swelling, and mild discomfort. Most patients will need to take one to two weeks off work to allow for rest and optimal healing. Be sure to rest as much as possible in the initial healing period of the first three days and follow Dr. Diamond’s vertical facelift recovery instructions, which may include the following:
- Avoid strenuous exercise for at least four weeks.
- Keep sutures clean and dry, and be gentle with your facial skin.
- Don’t worry about facial numbing, as it’s normal and should resolve on its own.
- Sleep with your head elevated to help reduce swelling.
Be sure to follow Dr. Diamond’s instructions as best as you can, as this will ensure an ideal result. Any undue stress on the incision site can cause larger scars, and excessive exercise can slow your healing process. The more you rest, the better your body can heal. Most patients can slowly return to daily activities after the second week.
Vertical Facelift Results
If you’ve ever wished you could look like your younger self, then a vertical facelift is for you. Rather than pulling the skin to the side for that inauthentic, tight look, a vertical facelift counteracts gravity by lifting the tissues back to a youthful position. The cheeks are lifted, the jowls and neck tightened, and your natural beauty is preserved.
